How Does the Instructor Course Work?
The IDC (Instructor Development Course) consists of two sections: the Assistant Instructor and the Open Water Scuba Instructor course. In 2010 you have two options:
- Complete the Assistant Instructor in May and return for the OWSI in October; this will give you lots of teaching experience over the summer months. We are happy to have you assist us on our range of PADI courses during this time; e.g. conduct the classroom portions of Openwater courses, Discover Scubadiving etc... You can also spread the course cost over two payments; one in May and one in October.
- Complete the Assistant Instructor and OWSI in October, one after the other
The PADI Openwater Scuba Instructor rating sets you apart from the crowd. PADI Instructors are the dive industry's most valued professionals, and can teach the entire range of PADI programmes, from PADI Discover Scubadiving to PADI Divemaster level. After completing the PADI IDC you must attend an Instructor Examination where your teaching skills will be assessed. Upon successful completion of this you can undertake your PADI Specialty Instructor ratings.
PADI has recently stipulated that anyone intending to enroll on an IDC must have a valid Emergency First Response Instructor (EFRI) qualification. Scubadive West will run an EFRI in advance of our full IDC, allowing any current Divemasters to upgrade.
How much will this cost?
The cost to complete the full IDC; that is the Assistant Instructor and Instructor Development Course in 2010; at Scubadive West is €899. The Crewpack must be purchased seperately at a price of €475. The cost to complete the Assistant Instructor (AI) or the Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI) as a stand alone is €499 for each.
The Emergency First Response Instructor Course will cost €450. Scubadive West offers a special package price on the full IDC and the EFRI for €1,200.
